Happy Halloween!
We spent the last 10 days in Sicily and had the most amazing time. We are heading home tonight, luckily our Halloween celebration isn’t for another few days. So I have time to put the final touches on the girls’ Halloween costumes. One of the costumes (a black cat) has been used 3 times in the last 4 years, so at least that saves me some work! You can see some of our prior Halloween costumes here, here and here.
Speaking of Halloween, how to do you handle the insane amount of candy and treats that your kids come home with?
For the last few years, the Switch Witch has visited our house, and it has worked out so well! The kids get to choose a certain number of pieces of candy to keep (whatever you feel comfortable with). Then they leave their bag of candy hanging on their bedroom door when they go to sleep. During the night, the Switch Witch takes the candy, and leaves something in its place. I love that magical Switch Witch!
As sad as I am to leave Sicily, I am looking forward to returning home to Vienna to catch the last of the gorgeous fall colors. And eat some pumpkin goodies. Austrians love kurbis (pumpkin) so we have plenty of options when it comes to pumpkin dishes. If you want some inspiration to cook up some pumpkin deliciousness, try pumpkin risotto or pumpkin pancakes.
Here are a few more of my favorite things lately…
- Austrians definitely believe in letting kids play, and not being a helicopter parent. It is one of my favorite things about living here!
- Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s Advice for Living.
- I recently read this book (which I wasn’t expecting to love as much as I did!) Now it is being made into a movie and by the looks of these photos it is going to be amazing.
- A Mother’s Mantra: “You can and you will.”
- These DIY pumpkin place card holders would be so cute for a fall dinner party.
- “Sometimes it seems like in this era, the more people stage their ideal life on social media, the more that serves to hide a not-so-ideal reality.”
- I won’t likely get to see Hamilton anytime soon, but I am excited to watch the Hamilton Documentary.
- As an avid audiobook listener, I fully agree that Audiobooks Are Not Cheating.
- Do you want to start listening to audiobooks? Learn how to download audiobooks from the library. It is so easy!
- This would look perfect in my bedroom.
- I don’t like to start thinking about Christmas so early, but every year my girls ask for this, and every year it is sold out before Thanksgiving. So this year I am planning ahead.
Also, trying to get a newsletter out weekly isn’t working out so well for me, so I’m just going to go with it. A monthly newsletter it is! Sign up below to get it delivered right to your inbox.
