Time stands still best in moments that look suspiciously like ordinary life.

Last fall, when Yan announced that she would be in San Francisco for just a few days, I jumped on the chance to have a session with her. I have been smitten with her work for quite some time, and was so excited to have a chance to get in front of her camera.
Then the beginning of March rolled around. I was 12 weeks pregnant, in the middle of horrible morning sickness and exhaustion. My husband wasn’t here. The terrible 3’s were in full effect. It was winter in San Francisco, and I dreamed of sunny outdoor photos. It was not the most opportune time to have a family session.
But we went ahead, and I am so happy that we did. Because these images are real. This is what our life looked like this last year. Just the two of us. Me and my girl. At home. With Daddy gone. Before our family of three turns into a family of four. These images mean more to me that I could ever express. Because they show us as we are. And I am so very thankful to have them.
So please, don’t wait for everything to be perfect to get your family in front of the camera. I wanted to. If I had followed my doubts, we wouldn’t have these beautiful memories. This little peek into our everyday life. Our perfectly-imperfect, ordinary life.
You can see more from our session with Yan here. She is amazing! If you haven’t seen her work before, prepare to spend a long while on her site. :)
